What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a cap that is placed over a damaged, weakened, or discoloured tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are also placed on implants and after root canal treatment.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that fills the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It uses the teeth on either side of the gap (called abutment teeth) as anchors to support the false tooth (pontic) in the middle.
How long do crowns and bridges last?
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, dental crowns and bridges can last 10–15 years or longer. Zirconia crowns are especially durable.
Is crown placement painful?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you will not feel pain during the treatment. Mild sensitivity after the procedure typically resolves within a few days.
How many appointments are needed?
Typically, two appointments are needed — one for tooth preparation and impressions, and a second to place the permanent crown or bridge. In some cases, a temporary crown is placed in between.
